Microgynon an effective contraception

Women, today prefer using hormonal contraception for preventing an unplanned pregnancy. These methods have helped women gain a better control over their sex life as they are more effective at preventing unplanned pregnancy in comparison to other contraceptive methods such as condoms. The three hormonal methods used by women are – contraceptive patches, contraceptive rings and contraceptive pills or birth control pills. Of these three methods, the birth control pills have become the most popular hormonal contraceptive method amongst women.

A contraceptive pill can either be combined pill or a mini-pill, the division of which is carried out on the basis of synthetic female hormones present in the pill. A combined pill consists of two synthetic female hormones naturally existing in your body – oestrogen and progestogen. Microgynon is one of the most popular combined pill used by women in uk. This pill has proven almost 100% effective in preventing a woman from conceiving. The synthetic versions of the two hormones present in this pill are ethinylestradiol – oestrogen and levonorgestrel – progestogen.

Microgynon is required to be taken for 21 days of your menstrual cycle that lasts for 28 days in total. You are to keep a break of seven days before starting a new pack. During this break, of seven days, you will have withdrawal bleeding which is much similar to your monthly period. This pill works in three different ways – preventing ovulation, fertilising of an egg by thickening the cervical mucous and altering the womb lining to prevent you from being pregnant.
